Recap of Week 8 and Peek at my Week 9!

Tara West

Hey there my sweet bloggy buds!  Another week…check! This week was all about Little Red Hen!  What a good message huh?  With a little help my friend Jennifer we rocked the most adorable hens!  This post reviews the plans directly below and you can view my plans for next week at the bottom of this post!

I really do love all of my close reads so it is impossible to pick a favorite…Little Red Hen is one of my tops though!  The detailed close read plans under the book will hopefully hit my shop at some point!  They will list the standards, objectives, and assessment highlights of each close read!

The kids really loved using their retelling pieces to retell the story and the could all state why the other animals did not get to eat the cake!

Our weekly vocabulary words…

Here is another shot of our adorable Little Red Hen from Jennifer at First Grade Blue Skies!

This week we moved on to unit two of KinderPhonics! We learned Mm and Ss!  You can see I quickly learned that the kids are much better illustrators than me #obviously…I did Mm and they did Ss…for now on they do both! HA!

We also started our KinderPhonics interactive notebooks!

This week I went to a Kagan conference {in love!}  I’ve been over the moon with the new things I’ve been trying in my room just these past few days!  One of my favorites you can see in action below…my students work with their math partner together on their independent practice sheet.  Partner A explains how they think the problem should be answered, Partner B agrees and then they switch!  It was so amazingly sweet to see the kids naturally explaining their thinking to their partner!  You can see in just these couple of shots kids pointing and touching the paper even if it wasn’t their turn to write.

And I’ll leave you with a couple of shots from literacy centers this week!  These candy corn CVC match-ups are from my Taking Back Weekends: October edition packet!

This Word, Build, Write center is always a favorite by the kiddos!  I think it’s the mix of letters and dry erase markers…double win haha!
