Alphabet Task Cards - Free Beginning and Ending Sound Phonics Center

This free download includes 150 engaging task cards designed to help students isolate and identify beginning and ending sounds in words. These isolated sounds task cards are ideal for small-group instruction, phonics centers, intervention groups, or at-home practice.

Each card features a visual image and two sound position prompts. Students determine whether the focus sound is heard at the beginning or end of the word and mark their answer using color-coded manipulatives:

• 🟢 green circle for beginning sounds

• 🔴 red circle for ending sounds

These manipulatives are found in the hand2mind Science of Reading toolkit, making it easy to integrate this resource with your existing materials. If you don’t have the toolkit, any red and green markers or counters will work.
