Free CVCe Cover It cards. Students see a picture, decode words, and cover the correct silent e match.
These CVCe Cover It cards build decoding and word recognition by combining pictures with silent e word choices. Students look at the picture, search for the correct word, and cover it with a manipulative. Distractor words make sure they are decoding carefully instead of guessing. This activity is science of reading-aligned and works well for small-groups, centers, or independent phonics practice.
Example: picture of a cake with the words cane, cape, cake, coke → student covers cake
Reinforces careful decoding and vowel-consonant-e spelling pattern
Strengthens accuracy, fluency, and attention to detail in word reading
Great with cubes, counters, clothespins, or dry-erase markers
Perfect for literacy centers, phonics warm-ups, or intervention
By adding distractor words, students learn to pay attention to every sound in the word while still connecting meaning with pictures.
